Niche Research Tips – Long Tail Keywords

Niche research is the heart and soul of creating a sustainable and profitable business online. However, you don’t always have to go after the big keywords. Sometimes, you can really find some diamonds by going after what are called long tail keywords. This article is going to explain what long tail keywords are, why you want to hunt them down and how to go about finding them.
Long tail keywords are keywords that are, for the most part, rather long in length…meaning that they contain a few words in them. For example, acne cures would not be considered a long tail keyword because it is only a couple of words and probably has a number of daily searches at Wordtracker. However, something like how to cure teenage acne would be considered a long tail keyword especially if there weren’t a lot of daily searches.
Okay, so why do you want to hunt down these keywords? Well, regular keywords, while they probably have more daily searches, probably also have a lot more competition. This makes it more difficult to get a foothold in that niche. However, with a long tail keyword, while you don’t have as many searches, you probably also have a lot less competition. What this means is that you’ll have an easier time getting into the niche and earning an income because you pretty much have an open field.
Okay, so how do you find these long tail keywords? Actually, it’s not hard at all. If you go to Wordtracker and just type in any keyword, such as acne cures, you’ll find a lot of related keywords that Wordtracker will list. As you get down towards the bottom of the list, you’ll find many keywords that have a number of words in them, fewer daily searches and thus are considered long tail keywords. Plus, if you then check Google for competing sites, you’ll notice that there aren’t very many. This gives marketers a big opening to make some money off of these keywords.
You’re not going to get rich off of long tail keywords, but if you want an easy time picking up a few bucks, this is one way to go about it.
